Beautiful and beautifully made, antique Continental Solid Silver Tinder Box, dating to the early 19th Century. The Box has a lovely ornate design on the lid of the Box, with a central motif bordered by a textured design that repeats itself throughout the outer portions of the Box. A piece of Flint remains inside the Box and as well as a cord, which can be moved by the hand gear. Inside the hinged lid is a hallmark that looks to be: HP.
The Box measures 1 3/8" x 2 1/4" x 5/16" high. It weighs approximately 37.2 grams. The condition is very good....there is normal wear. The darkened areas are tarnish and can be hand polished out. We do not generally polish unless requested, as some collectors prefer the aged patina.
The antique European Silver Tinder Box is a wonderful and fine example! It shows very well in the photographs and even more stunning in person! The photographs were taken with and without a camera flash.
