Beautiful and quite large, antique open-work, signed Butterfly Brooch of Seed Pearls, 14K Gold and four Citrine stones. The Brooch is quite large and very beautifully designed and made. It dates to the late 19th Century, circa: 1890. The See Pearls are wire strung with a Citrine at the corners of each Butterfly Wing. The center area is designed with a double row of Seed Pearls in a half circle and attaches to the bar pin on the reverse. The piece is hallmarked with the maker's mark: CH (intertwined), 14K, Patent Apl'd For (meaning Patent Applied For). It is also marked 14K on the pin clasp. The small pivoting knob on the reverse has an unknown use, though probably used in its construction. The wire Wings are sturdy and one looks to be very slightly misshapen at its bottom. The antique Butterfly Brooch is in good condition and has a Wing span of approximately 3 1/2". The height measures approximately 1 3/4". This is an unusual and exceptionally pretty 19th Century 14K Gold and Seed Pearl Butterfly Brooch! It is elegant and fun at the same time!!
