Exceptional, large antique English Sterling Silver Fish Serving Set with its original fitted case. The antique Fish Set dates to circa: 1848. Each piece with tremendous high relief handles and fantastic engraved designs on both the Sterling Fish Fork and Sterling Fish Slice. On each hollow handle is a fully formed Fish circling the handle; note the 'fish scale' texture, Hallmarks well struck and more detailed when viewed in person under magnification. The handles were made by H. Harch & Co., of the town of Sheffield. The finely engraved Tines and Blade made by Geo. Unite, of Birmingham, circa: 1848-9.
Very beautifully made and an important size set. The antique Sterling Fish Slice measures 13" long and its matching Serving Fork measures 10 3/8" in length. Under inspection we noticed a well done, minor repair that was done at some time where the handle joins with the tines of the Fork. Also, both Servers have slight 'dings' in the area containing the monograms (which is possibly EAS)??.
The Fitted Case is leather on the outside with an impressed design The interior of the fitted case is a handsome, deep purple velvet. The case is missing its 'catch'. Is a spectacular Set and even prettier and more detailed in person!
