An exquisite Victorian pendant with stunning design elements that make it quite rare and unusual, much more beautiful in person!
The pendant is a memory locket and has a glass enclosure in the back which would have held a lock of hair or memento.
Fabricated in 14k Gold, the craftsman used very beautiful techniques in making this pendant. The white/cream colored area is enamel and there is gold wire running through the ground in the form of a starburst. The frame is black enamel with gold dots, alternating in shiny and textured patterns. Along the frame are 8 rose cut diamond bezel set.
The central design of the locket is an applied three dimensional form of what I believe is an exotic fruit or flower. Perhaps, Japanese as this was a popular theme with the Victorians. The form has a stem with two heart shape leaves on the bottom holding two rose cut diamonds. The top displays a bud and two more leaves with diamonds. One of my client's suggested this form may be a variety of the Anthurium plant, a beautiful exotic flower with heart shaped leaves.
The form of the design is quite intriguing and I welcome any thoughts on the subject matter.
The diamonds sparkle giving this pendant an allure of elegance and beauty. I was told by my jeweler that the diamonds total wt. is approximately 1/2 ct.
The bale is quite generous in size and I displayed it with a silk cord just to show the bale, but I do believe it will look great on gold or black.
Unsigned, but tests for 14k.
