This lamp is a CREME DE LA CREME example of late 19th Century American oil lamps. This lamp has ALL OF THE BELLS and WHISTLES so to speak. This listing includes all of the following as listed: • Original Antique 14” High Dome Butterscotch Hobnail Art Glass Shade (no cracks, chips or repairs) • RARE Original Antique Butterscotch Hobnail Art Glass Smoke Bell (no cracks, chips or repairs) • 32 Original Wonderfully Hand Cut Antique Butterscotch Spear Tip Prisms (only minor flea bites on a few of the them as expected for their age) • Vintage Butterscotch Gold Opalescent Chimney with Fluted Opalescent top (no cracks, chips or repairs – but a little rough on the fitter end) • Vintage Butterscotch Gold Daisy Button Umbrella Match Holder (no cracks, chips or repairs) • OUTSTANDING RARE Antique Jeweled Frame Made by “The Ansonia Brass & Copper Company”. NINE Jewels which all appear to be original. • WOW! Three fancy VERY RARE YELLOW BRASS jeweled crown decorations (Jewels may be replacements) valued at $1,800 (usually sell for $600.00 a piece) • Oil tank with burner assembly which is complete – not electrified • Original working Retraction Motor (it is working now but due to age we do not guarantee working condition after shipping). Note - Electrification kits are available if you wish to convert to electricity.
For your reference this lamp is shown (without its original tank) on page 27 in the Book “Hanging Victorian Lamps of the Nineteenth Century Identification & Values” written by Jeffery Ebersole in 2008. In this book it states "The Ansonia Brass & Copper Company was originally located in Derby, Connecticut, nd later established its business operations in Ansonia, Connecticut. It is believed that Ansonia began its kerosene lamp manufacturing around 1865, but this lighting business never reached the heights of distribution or notoriety of such manufacturers as Bradley & Hubbard, Edward Miller, or Charles Parker." This is the reason these lamps are highly valued collector's items because fewer of these were made.
This Lamp is without any doubt THE BEST OF THE BEST!
