A beautifully designed sterling silver piece framed in a dotted oval, portrays a tiny hummingbird getting nectar from the center of a large trumpet shaped flower. Made by McClelland Barclay, it is of exceptional quality and seldom seen. Measuring 1 3/4" x 1 1/2", this treasure has a soft patina that is unique to vintage sterling. It is signed on the reverse Sterling Silver and McClelland Barclay. McClelland Barclay was a gifted American artist, illustrator, jewelry designer and Naval officer. His jewelry pieces date from the mid 1930's to early 1940's. During World War II, his ship was torpedoed and he was pronounced missing in action. As one author states, "When one sees jewelry by McClelland Barclay, it should be purchased without hesitation since one never knows when it will be seen again."
