Incredibly detailed, this Victorian hand painted brooch portrays two women in vibrant colored garb, possibly sisters in a conspiring pose. Measuring about 2 1/2" x 2" in an oval, the painting is framed in an ornate gold frame with four flourishes. The outside portion of the frame tests 14K , but portions of the inside where the clasp is , are not gold. Also the pin is not gold. The pin portion probably was added at a later date and was metal soldered onto the gold. The back of the piece is numbered with an incised 76, and there are worn markings on one side.; I could not find a signature on the piece. Considering its age, the piece is in remarkable condition; but there are some scratches and wear to the painting. It is a lovely antique still beautiful after all these years!
