With fine line detailing, this saucy little seahorse is hand wrought sterling silver. Measuring 1 1/2" in length and 3/4" in width, this little creature is signed "Sterling" and "SGP" in a triangle. It has the locking swivel clasp popular in the forties. In excellent estate condition, it is a great find for one who loves seahorses! Stavre Gregor Panis and his wife, Gladys were well known artists and jewelers in New England. Stavre Gregor Panis is listed in The Society of Arts & Crafts, Boston Exhibition Record 1897-1927 by Karen Evans Ulehla. He is listed as a "Jeweler" and Craftsman member of the Society of Arts & Crafts, Boston from 1925-27. Later, the Panis's established a studio in Falmouth, Mass. which is still in existence. Their work is all hand turned and labor intensive.
