A wagasa is a Japanese traditional umbrella consisting of washi (Japanese paper) with a bamboo handle and ribs. Utilitarian Japanese traditional umbrellas are still indispensable to the tea ceremony and Japanese dance. It is made of a strong structure with four sheets of Japanese paper pasted to the central part of the umbrella and coated with wax. The colors of this umbrella splendid and graceful and the design elegant. Wonderful natural red and tan. The lower handle of the umbrella is wrapped in corded plastic.
Open it measures approximately 45" across and closed it is 27" tall. It is in excellent condition with no holes or odor, just a couple of construction spots and dripped wax, pictured, as these are handmade. The craftsmanship is artistic and very beautiful. Artful cultural piece.
