This is an Exceptional Finely Detailed Antique Carved Cameo Brooch with a Hand-Carved Shell, set in an ornate 10KT Rose & Yellow Gold Filigree Frame, dating to 1910 - 1920. This Pin was made in America and Hallmarked "ESEMCO 10K". This is the mark used by the Shiman Jewelry Co. They began operations in 1906 in Newark NJ.
The Exquisite Gold Ribbon Frame shows alternating 14K Yellow and 14K Green Gold for a striking contrast of precious metals.
The Master Carver is a skilled Artist and presents a right side portrait of a Beautiful Lady. She has lovely upswept hair that is so finely carved you can see thin wisps of curls around her face and her neck! A decorative head band decorates her hair. The flowers on her dress show markings of the peach carved shell. Her face and neck are creamy smooth while her dress and corsage shows a touch of peach. She has finely detailed carved eyelids and eyebrow!
A Large Exotic Floral Corsage decorates her right shoulder. There are (5) leaves and (2) flowers in the corsage. Notice how lovely her bodice is – her dress drapes gracefully in multiple layers.
The glossy deep peach carnelian (comelian) shell is deep- set along the perimeter in a smooth gold bezel for a very secure hold. The frame is ornate from any angle....the filigree work is exquisite, there is openwork all around the central cameo and filigree and ball bead work when you look at any side view. The gold frame peaks at four sides and there is an additional green gold floral decor at the side peaks. The creamy white & ivory contrasts beautifully against the carnelian. The entire setting is 2" Tall x 1 5/8" Wide.
In the pictures you can see how nicely dimensional she is. There are no cracks or chips on this superior quality shell.
In original, excellent Condition, this classic, romantically serene looking beauty is a fine addition to your Antique Cameo Jewelry Collection.
The shell is in great condition... There is no wear to the carving and the shell maintains that highly sought after Bloom or Sheen to the shell. The Cornelian Shell is perfectly set in the frame without any gaps. The Carvings are smooth, well-executed with a Wonderful Proportioned Composition.
Age: Early 1900's.
