A remarkable Necklace in the Austro Hungarian tradition by Designer Zoltan White who trained in Budapest but worked and lived in England in the first half of the 20th century. His work was very much influenced by the Austro-Hungarian style. This rare hand crafted Arts and Crafts turquoise and silver necklace is spectacular. Handcrafted around 1910 in England, the large central pendant is detachable so necklace can be simplified if wearing during the day. This removable pendant has a large cabochon turquoise measuring approximately 27mm x 11mm x 15mm (about 44K) and is surrounded by 4 medium sized turquoise cabochons and 8 smaller ones with three more oval shapes dropping from the pendant. This impressive pendant is 11cm (4.25") long and 6cm (2.25") wide. Necklace equally adorned with turquoise stones in each ornate link. The turquoise stones vary in color adding more interest to the piece. This piece is fully marked on the necklace clasp and pendant with the ‘Silver’, ‘Made in England’, and the maker’s mark that reads, ‘ZW & CO’. The necklace measures 44cm (17" ) in total length, with an additional 11cm for the pendant. The necklace closes firmly with a tongue push clasp and has an additional security clip.
Zoltan Whites pieces are scarce but very collectible. I was fortunate to be able to acquire this piece. The necklace is marked silver but has been acid tested for sterling. Some of his pieces were stamped "sterling" and others simply "silver". I am unsure of the reason.
This necklace looks stunning around the neck! It is in excellent vintage or antique condition. I acquired it with its original presentation box. The box is from "Pratt of Darby Antiques". The will arrive in the presentation box but the box will need to be re-higned but otherwise in good condition.
