Lovely high quality estate two strand angel skin coral bead and cameo necklace. Natural, not treated or dyed this coral necklace originated in Italy. These hand formed Mediterranean beads range in color from a creamy white to a soft blush pink. They are dense, fairly uniform in size and well polished. Beads are in excellent condition with only a few naturally occurring surface imperfections and I only noted one with a small fissure. The imperfections are minor and difficult to find even with magnification. A pretty hand carved cameo shell clasp set in gilt 800 silver finishes it off. Some of the gilding has worn off over time but can still be seen. The clasp is a box and tongue type, oval in shape and measures 1" (26mm) long by 3/4" (19mm) wide. It comes with an addition safety hook. The tongue is stamped with 800, for silver grade. The beads range between are between 12 and 13mm and are well matched in size. Ninety two beads in total, the necklace weighs 103.1 grams and measures 18.25" ( 46.5cm), including clasp. It has been professionally restrung and individually hand knotted with silk cord. Diving for coral was banned in the 1970's and has become very desirable and harder to find. This is a lovely example and a very wearable vintage necklace dating back to the 1930's or 1940's.
