A Swiss sovereign gold coin minted in 1927. Designed by Fritz Landry (signed on the coin), it depicts an allegorical female head "Helvetia" the national symbol of Switzerland. She faces to the left. The reverse side a rendition of the shield of Switzerland surrounded by oak leaves. The value FR (Swiss Franks) 20, the date 1927 and the letter B (Bern) are stamped on the coin. The coin would have been minted 1927 or earlier. The coin itself measures just over 3/4" (21mm) in circumference and is made of 21 karat gold that has a rose hue. It is held in place by an elaborate holder made up of 14k gold, stamped with country, 585 ( 14K) and the maker. Measurement including holder is 5-1/16" (33mm). These coins were minted at the Bern mint from 1897- 1935 and then again between 1947- 1949. A lovely collection piece and in great vintage condition.
