A nice Victorian Sterling Silver Tabacco/Snuff Box from Birmingham, England circa 1896. Box is round in form tapering towards the top. The hinged lid id surrounded with simple bead work. Box is gilt on the inside. Fully hallmarked to the bottom for Birmingham 1896. The first letter W of th makers mark is legible but the rest rubbed out but could also br a W. Not in pristine condition with minor dents and surface scratches commensurate with age and use. Dents could be smoothed out if desired by a capable silversmith. The hinge is perfect and the lid closes securely. Simple yet elegant piece which was well loved and used. Box is 2-1/8" across at the base and 2-1/4" tall. The widest part is 7" in circumference ( where it splays out). Circumference of lid is 6.5" and is 1-1/4" across.
