Hello espresso drinkers! Here are four unusual Art Deco era, 800 silver demitasse cup holders with porcelain inserts. These cup holders have a decorative pattern around the rim and handles that are made of nicely shaped wood. Cups are 2-3/8 " tall and 3.25" across ( with handle) . The porcelain inserts are 2" in diameter and sit up .75" form the cup holder and ae in perfect condition, no chips, cracks or repairs. Each cup holder is stamped 800 silver, making them most probably European and possibly Italian in origin. 800 silver is an alloy of silver that is 800 parts silver and 200 parts other metals. This alloy was common in the 19th and early 20th centuries on the European mainland. It was the alloy of choice for certain pieces as it withstands high firing temperatures better than alloys with a higher silver content. Cup holders are in great vintage condition save for one which has small dent on the bottom of the foot (last image). It is not visible when sitting on any surface and sits flush on the table, that is, no wobbling . This dint could be smoothed if desired by a competent silversmith with the right tools. They have not been cleaned so if desired can be polished up beautifully! A "Barista's" delight!
