A rare and very beautiful silver Austrian festoon necklace made around the turn of the century, Art Nouveau / Arts and Crafts in style and look. Consisting of a wonderful slightly domed pendant hanging from a swag with 5 strands of silver chain for its focal point, then tapering to a 3 strand silver chain necklace and finishing with a box and tongue fastening clasp. Pendant is crafted with gorgeous floral open silver work which shows off a amethyst cabochon stones that is claw set into a gilt silver star like shape. A small silver floral drop hangs from this pendant. The five swags join the other two ornate silver floral pieces to finish off the necklace at the clasp. Necklace is in exceptional vintage condition and quite rare. Have only seen a few examples of this makers work. Hallmarked with Austrian stamps, 3 on inside of tongue (one being the toucan head in a cartouche with a letter, "S" for city and a number for silver purity), another would be the maker: R.R., which stands for Richard Ranft. The one on outside of clasp is the same cartouche bearing the toucan. S, stands for Salzburg. Necklace is C 1920. When closed necklace is 16" around the neck. Top part of pendant fall right to the collar bone. Pendant is 2" in length by approximately 1-1/4" wide. Amethyst is approximately 10m wide and 12mm long.
