This is a wonderful Austro Hungarian pendant necklace and earring set. Typical to Austro Hungarian workmanship of that era, design and construction is elaborate and intricate. Circa 1870 set is crafted of gilt silver filigree work (between 800-900 silver) normal and standard for European silver of that time. Stones are a lovely faceted "sapphire" paste stones in bezel settings with natural fresh water natural pearls bezel set around the filigree work. From the elaborately decorated chain hangs two pendants or medallions, one larger and one smaller. Finished with an equally detailed tong and box clasp on which are the hallmarks with the dogs head and initial for makers mark. The clasp shuts firmly. Necklace measures 16-1/8" (41cm) around the neck and drops hang 3" (7.5cm) from chain giving it a 22" (56cm) drop altogether. Larger drop is 2" x 2" (5cm). Both necklace and earrings still has traces of the gold gilt throughout. A fabulous piece of history that is in excellent antique condition. Earrings are constructed in the same elaborate fashion and drop 1-3/4" (4.5cm) from the ear lobe and are 3/4" (17mm lower drop) at their widest point. They no longer have their original screw back ear wires, which would have possibly been designed with more filigree work surrounding a blister pearl or another sapphire stone. They have been replaced with sterling silver ear wires for pierced ears. If desired they can easily be replaced with gold ones. I can supply if desired or ask your local jeweler.
