Another fine example of 1930's Art Deco Jewelry. A true vintage modernist German Jacob Bengel composition. This genuine 1930's necklace made of Galalith (casein) and chrome. The focal part of the necklace is comprised of 3 geometric pieces of green and blue galalith that hang between chrome balls separated by blue galalith beads with chrome spacers. Very light around the neck and hangs very nicely. The Galalith components have a very nice surface patina but no traces of dryness. This necklace is without any damage and in excellent vintage condition. The Clasp is working perfectly, with no surface corrosion. A fun and whimsical piece !
Bengel was a pioneer in modern jewelry. The firm never mass-produced or exported in numbers. Designs were too modern to appeal to a large market and the materials were not readily available making these pieces alluring to collectors as pieces are often unique . Missing the lustre of gold or platinum, the modern woman of the 1930s drew attention to herself with the combinations geometric form and refined metal.
The necklace measures 17-1/4 inches around the neck with 1.5 inch drop from the top of the galalith geometric pieces.
