The clock is absolutely beautiful with very fine detailed brass and pewter inlay on tortoiseshell surrounded in ebony stained wood. The silvered dial and gilded ormolu are mounted on a rich burgundy color velvet fabric background with highly detailed gilded hands to tell the time. On the top of the clock there are three bronze finials and a bell behind the top header that has a beautiful resonate sound for the chime. The case and all the wonderful detailed workmanship is in just about perfect condition. The front door has the original lock with a key. The back door has unusual hooks to hold it closed. The very heavy clock movement is unsigned but of very high quality, looks like Japy Freres type. It runs 8 days and chimes on the bell that's on top of the case on the hour and once on the half hour, keeping just about perfect time. The movement has just been completely serviced. A very similar clock is pictured in Miller's Antique price guide 2007 book on page 317.
