Satin glass was a popular decorative glass developed in the late 19th century. The name derives from the soft matte finish, caused by exposure to acid fumes, which gave the surface a "satiny" feel. MOP ( mother-of-pearl)satin glass was a specialized variety wherein air trapped between layers of glass provided subtle surface pattern such as Herring-bone and Diamond Quilted. A majority of satin glass was produced in England, Bohemia and America.
