I am pleased to offer this intaglio carved ring, circa late 1800s. Wonderful carved intaglio set in a rolled gold locket or case, which is set on a 10K Gold band. With the little locket/case that opens up, this could be a poison or mourning ring - used to store the hair or other memento or perhaps poison. Looks like initials were engraved on the back but wear has made them impossible to read. There is no 'locking' mechanism on this - I suspect at one time it would have fit snuggly in place but doesn't now. I wouldn't trust it staying closed if wearing it, stays closed fine if on display
According to the ring sizer, this is size 7 3/4 (last photo), the little locket/case is 3/4" x 5/8" x 1/4"D This has been lightly cleaned.
This has wear from age and use, intaglio carving has no cracks , wear to the back of the locket/case. There is no locking mechanism to the locket/case, doesn't look like there ever was one.
See my store for more mourning pieces, I combine on shipping.
