We are pleased to offer for your buying consideration a BEAUTIFUL ANTIQUE VICTORIAN SHELL ART MINIATURE FOOTED TRINKET BOX/SEWING ETUI!
Whether a collector of antique SEWING EPHEMERA or wanting that special miniature accessory item for display with your ANTIQUE DOLL, you will be THRILLED with this very HARD TO FIND little gem!
Victorian shell art became for the vogue for the upper and middle classes in the late 1800's, and Victorian ladies could purchase shellwork supplies including individual packets with shells already sorted and accompanied by printed patterns for making shell flowers, boxes and frames. It was also a great trade for the men and women who lived in port towns to craft and sell their handmade little “shell souvenirs" to bring in extra income to their households, and often these little treasures were purchased by sailors who visited the ports as gifts for their sweethearts!
By the late 1800's these intricate little pieces became all the rage, and this special little trinket box we are offering in this listing may have originally been used as a tiny SEWING ETUI, but would also make the PERFECT DISPLAY to showcase the coveted trinkets or jewelry items of your FRENCH FASHION doll, or displayed on a TOILETTE TABLE with milady's NECESSAIRE items; we can even envision it as a little trunk to house a tiny ALL BISQUE or MIGNONETTE doll!
The box measures a DIMINUTIVE 5" wide across it's FANCY FOOTED bottom, and is 3 1/2" deep and 2 3/4" high with the lid closed, and the interior compartment measures 3 1/2" wide, 2 1/4" deep and 1 1/4" high! The entire exterior of the box is covered with a variety size and shape of GENUINE SHELLS with beautiful handwork and AMAZING DETAIL; we particularly love it's overall DELICATE FEMININE appeal including it's SCALLOPED BOTTOM!
When opened, the box reveals it's original LITHOGRAPH PAPER interior in a rich gold floral pattern, and it's ORIGINAL MIRROR on the inside lid! Underneath, the box still retains it's original black papered bottom that appears untouched by time; it is of FINE QUALITY and undoubtedly created by a very experienced craftsman almost 125 years ago! It is one of the most ELABORATE DECORATIVE miniature shellwork box we have offered and just the right venue to display your doll's favorite trinkets, and in overall EXCELLENT CONDITION missing just a few tiny shells in barely noticeable places-----it doesn't get any BETTER than this!
A GORGEOUS DISPLAY piece used as a miniature sewing etui, or the PERFECT ACCESSORY to house the tiny trinkets of your antique POUPEE, as shown modeled by our 13" antique Bru Smiler Fashion doll who is coveting it for her very own TOILETTE NECESSAIRE piece! We are also featuring it as a TINY TRUNK to showcase your favorite ALL BISQUE or MIGNONETTE doll, such as we have shown here with our 3 1/2" all original doll; she will be offered shortly under a separate listing so please check our shop frequently if also interested in this little gem!
