We are pleased to offer for your buying consideration a MAGNIFICENT RARE LARGE ANTIQUE FRENCH VICTORIAN FRAMED TWO DIMENSIONAL PORCELAIN FIGURAL SCENE!
This UNIQUE decorative piece features an exquisite QUALITY PORCELAIN hand painted relief vignette in it's original OVAL FRAME, and would make a DYNAMIC DISPLAY hanging in a special place in your parlor or boudoir, or showcased in your DOLL ROOM as a special accessory piece!
This HARD TO FIND vignette is most likely French Victorian circa 1860's, and consists of a BLACK LACQUER wooden oval frame with original CONVEX GLASS cover which beautifully showcases a rare hand painted TWO DIMENSIONAL porcelain scene of a fancy COURTING COUPLE taking a romantic boat ride! The detail is AMAZING, with exquisite modeling and gorgeous VIBRANT COLORS; the faces on the couple have a distinct European look with wide eyes and aquiline noses and their clothes are FASHIONABLY COUTURE with tiny flowers hand painted on them and ELABORATE EMBELLISHMENTS including gilded accents and tiny raised porcelain flourishes! The porcelain scene is wonderfully unique, having the appearance of almost being a large SWINGER FIGURINE as evidenced by it's two dimensional aspect and the fact that the lady's hand has a hole in the fist as if to hold a rope; we don't think that one ever existed in this piece but it is possible these figurines were made to serve this purpose as well. But what we love best about the scene is the unusual BOAT THEME, especially capturing both the water and the shoreline!
The picture measures a total of 16 1/2" tall and 14" wide including the frame, and is 2 1/2" deep taking into account it's original CONVEX GLASS which is approximately 13" tall by 11" wide; the figurine itself measures about 9 1/2" tall by 9 3/4" wide, and is displayed against a backdrop of ROSE VELVET fabric! The back of the frame has it's original GREEN FELT backing, and the original small metal ring is still affixed at the top for ease of display! There are some age issues that need to be noted, mostly to the original wooden frame as there are some old stress cracks and wear to the lacquer paint and there appear to be a couple of small areas where there were repairs to the wood including a paint touch-up. The original convex glass is almost 150 years old so there is some age pitting, but the porcelain itself is in EXCELLENT CONDITION with no apparent chips, hairlines or repairs; at one point it may have been reinforced to the back but it still appears stable.
An absolute STUNNING DISPLAY in any room; our 13" antique French Fashion doll is doing the modeling honors as she thinks because of it's colorful porcelain figural scene it would be the PERFECT ACCESSORY to be showcased in a doll room!
