Our Victorian Hair Work Pierced Earrings feature beautifully woven 1-1/4'' hoops that are in all original condition. I have not tested the metal and will sell them as gold fill. The hoops are adorned in the center with 3/8'' acorn bulbs . The acorn was a symbol often used in military funerals as a symbol of strength but also as a symbol of life and endearment. So it is hard to say if these c. 1860s earrings were intended as a symbol of mourning or a more sentimental tribute to a loved one or friend that was traveling or no longer near.
They have preserved beautifully with no rips or tears. I will also be listing a pin that was purchased as part of the same collection.
