Our turn of the century cameo ring is crafted and hallmarked of 9CT gold. It is generous in size with a beautiful scalloped frame and will grace a size 9-1/4 finger.
More unusual than most it features Bacchus, the God of wine and fertility with a female follower a bacchante in his shadow. Below them rests a thyrsus or staff topped with a pinecone, a symbol of fertility. Forever and always romantic the Victorians brought more subtle and sentimental themes to their Mythological jewelry than the wild and sometimes violent traditional meanings.
The carving is a creamy white that beams with antique appeal against the soft taupe of the shell. The features are slightly softened with age but still beautiful and delicate. It measures 3/4'' x 5/8'' and over all measurement framed of 1'' x 3/4''. Age appropriate wear.
