Tattered, soiled and water stained this charming Doll size Vitrine has a wonderful story to tell. I purchased it from a retiring antique dealer who had previously lived in France. This vitrine was brought here by her when she moved to the USA but it is not clear if it was purchased here or in France. It is said to have belonged to Madame Alexander herself and retains two stickers on the bottom. One reads " Madame Alexander Estate".
It is missing the door knob which has been replaced with a piece of wire and does have obvious signs of wear and damage. The door is fitted with a beautiful piece of curved glass that follows the shape of the interior glass shelf. Their curves face outwards a wonderful feature and contrast to the glass panels in the side which curve inwards. It measures about 6-3/4'' x 9'' x 3-1/2'' deep.
What a wonderful treasure that blends beautifully with a shabby chic French country decor. I know it came from France and if truth be told it actually belonged to Madame Alexander. Being sold as is, I have made no attempt to clean it.
