This is a very special trinket or jewelry jar that is completely hand painted. The artist has painted a beautiful & very regal looking late 1800's era lady of the Aristocracy. This beautiful woman has auburn hair done in waves and curls; a serene, restful and lovely face, and a fashionable dress; she also has feathers and raised paste "pearls" in her hair. The shading of her skin is subtle and well done; her eyes are dark and her lips are lovely. The portrait has a pretty wide band of gold to accent her beauty; the body of the jar is a gorgeous shade of purple. There is also raised paste "pearl" beading around the gold band as well as raised paste gold beading on the center of the gold band. Both lids and the bottom rim are painted in gold. This is a beautiful, very special piece - completely hand painted and very well done. It has been part of my small trinket jar collection for many years.
The Jar stands 2" tall and 3" wide. These small jars are hard to find and even harder to find one with a handpainted portrait.
It is marked with Tressemann & Vogt mark 5a. 1892-1907.
