This is a beautiful Limoges Cider Pitcher that is vividly painted. The artist has painted deep red currants hanging ripely and heavily from their vines. The leaves are tucked around the fruit and the bunches of currants are painted all around the body of the pitcher. The background ranges from dark green to light green with blush tones. The upper rim is wonderful -- heavy gold that is painted around the scalloped rim and raised paste scroll work outlining the gold border. There is a thin line of gold on both sides of the rippled handle as well.
This beauty stands 5 3/4" tall at the tip of the spout and has a circumference of about 20 1/2" around.
It is in excellent condition with no chips, cracks or hairlines.
This looks to be unmarked Limoges. Early 1900's.
