This is a stunning Limoges tray that is shaped like a butterfly. This is a harder to find mold and highly sought after. The artist has painted rich, deep purple double violets in a large cluster that drifts downward from one half to reach towards the bottom. The vines and nodding unopened buds accompany these velvety violets. The artist has also added gold scroll and flat beading to accent the outer rim. The background colors range from yellow to umber to blue and soft purple. The ruffled rim is trimmed in gold.
The tray measures 12 1/2" wide and 9 3/4" long.
It is in excellent condition with no chips, cracks or hairlines. It has been part of my collection for many, many years.
It is marked with Pouyat mark 5, 1891 and after.
