This is a superb center bowl that is decorated and signed by Edward Donath of the Chicago Donath Studio. Edward Donath was a contemporary and also an artist for the Pickard studios in the late 1800's, forming his own studio in 1899. His work was superior and his pieces are much sought after. This gorgeous piece show vibrant double violets, their slender stems and nodding buds, in the center of the bowl against outstanding shading. The very wide gold border is painted with bouquets of violets that are outlined in black. This is a stunning bowl and immediately draws the eye to it's beauty and superb artistry.
The bowl stands almost 2 1/2" tall, 12 5/8" long and 8 1/4" wide.
I found this beauty in an antique store in Scottsdale Arizona and it was listed as having a repaired handle. It has been professionally restored and it is one of the best restorations of a handle with gold, that I've seen. It positively gleams with beauty and presents beautifully.
It is marked with Donath 4, 1906 and after.
