This striking European work depicts a typical "procession Bretonne", a religious tradition in Brittany, France, in which the village faithful, in traditional attire, gather behind a statue of the Virgin Mary, while praying for pardon for their sins.
The words Cleden Poker appear in the lower left hand corner, and it is signed J. Van de Maele in the lower right hand corner. I believe it to be from the 1940s. It is beautifully framed in its original handcrafted gilt wood frame.
Framed: 41.25" x 35..25", unframed 31.25" x 25"
