An early pressed glass platter that was made to commemorate the death of President James Garfield in 1881. The IN REMEMBRANCE is embossed on the top. This features Washington, Lincoln and Garfield in a raised pattern in the center. There are inscriptions underneath each cameo that read 'GOD REIGNS', 'FIRST IN PEACE', and 'CHARITY FOR ALL'. Small dots and a laurel leaf motive decorate the rim. We believe this was known as a bread plate at the time.
We are unsure of the manufacturer; most likely Gillinder and of course, dates to the 1880s for a time period. We find some scratches which we have tried to show in our photos. Excuse the finger tips in our last photo. It was a challenge to capture all the detail on this item in pictures. There is no damage that we could find.
Measures 12 inches long and 10 inches at the widest point.
