An antique set of porcelain butter pats that feature a floral and leaf design. The rims have a slightly scalloped edge and are decorated with brushed gold. A shiny glaze finishes off the decoration and the porcelain is left white for a background.
The hallmark is from the Carl Schlegelmilch factory and according to Mary Frank Gaston, the C.S. Prussia Suhl factory was only in business under Carl's ownership from 1882-1912. The mark you see on these is from that time period. The lack of many examples with this mark (CS Clover mark) indicates that little of this factory's porcelain was exported to the United States.
Each butter pat measures 3 inches in diameter and there are four to the set. We could not find any damage to any of these. There is a bit of extra slip on the back of of one from the manufacturing process.
