An antique cobalt porcelain canister that features a portrait of two partially nude young ladies on the front. The portrait is in an oval frame decorated with a gold band and raised beading. The background color is a deep cobalt blue that is enhanced with gold foiling around the remainder of the jar. As you would suspect this has a decorative Victorian pattern to the mold. This may have been used as a tobacco humidor or a biscuit jar. Definitely a masculine piece!

The hallmark is from Philip Rosenthal & Co, Bavaria, Germany which tells us that this was manufactured c. 1898. We also find the bottom marked with the mold name Monbijou. Replacements Ltd. calls the pattern Women in Marsh with the pattern number as R1745.

Measurements are 6 1/4 inches tall and 5 inches wide across the bottom. A stunning antique portrait piece in outstanding condition!
