An antique porcelain bowl featuring a hand painted hunting theme. The decoration is Water Rail birds in a marsh complete with cat tails.
The border shows different spaniel retriever dogs included a dog with a bird in its mouth. You'll see gold lines around the interior and exterior border. This is free hand painting without the aid of stenciling. There is a mark on the back of the plate that states Water Rail giving the factory artist license to create their own scene.
The hallmark is from the Marx & Gutherz factory in Bohemia, Austria and tells us that this piece dates to c. 1885-1898.
Measuring 8 3/8 inches in diameter with the only issue we have found being a dot of paint missing from the dog's ear on the left border and the dog at the bottom. This could easily be re-painted. We did not find any damage to the porcelain. An excellent, one of a kind piece of art porcelain.
