An antique plate that features a portrait center and cobalt rim. The portrait is of a young woman in Grecian dress that is painting a landscape scene. The rim is a deep, rich cobalt overlaid with gold stenciling. The underside has a light blue color.
This was manufactured by Pope-Gosser China which opened in 1902, with production starting in 1903. Early examples of their work were marked with the Clarus Ware mark. Clarus Ware is a very nice Edwardian art china produced by the Pope Gosser Pottery of Coshocton, Ohio, for only a few years which makes this a rare piece.
Measuring 10 inches in diameter and in beautiful antique condition. There is no grazing, cracks or fleabites. We see a personal note on the back along with the Clarus Ware mark.
