An antique silver plate brides basket vase that features a ruffled rim. This has a lovely pierced design. The handle is decorated with a serpent at the top. These particular baskets were all the rage in the late 19th Century for bridal gifts.
Manufactured by the Bernard Rice & Sons Silver Co. prior to 1899. Bernard Rice & Sons merged with Apollo Silver and Shepard and Rice prior to 1899.
The entire piece from bottom to top of upright handle measures 18.5 inches high. Just the basket measures 10.25 inches high and the ruffled rim is 7.75 inches long and 5 inches wide. The base measures 3 5/8 inches diameter.
There is some plating wear that we found on the underside of the ruffled rim and a few bends in a few places due to the ornate design. This also needs further cleaning! None of this deters from the grand presentation of this piece and we are in awe of the condition of such an item but we have priced accordingly.
