A vintage silent butler that features a Victorian portrait scene. We have a young woman on a swing and her lover pushing her into the air. The colors on this are very vibrant and the porcelain is pure white. There is a lavish brass band on rims of top and bottom with a filigree brass thumb press. The handle unscrews from the body for safe storage.
Hallmarked with a number on the bottom we are unable to determine manufacturer. We have seen Japanese imports with this number so we presume that this was indeed manufactured there; most likely c. 1940s.
Measuring 10 inches long to tip of handle and 3 inches tall, we find just a smidgen of wear to the decoration. These were commonly used to empty ash trays into. Hot embers would not burn through the porcelain.
