A vintage pair of bronze over cast metal bookends featuring the image from The Angelus after Jean Francois Millet; originally painted 1859. We see a couple giving thanks for the harvest with their heads bowed in prayer. This prayer was typically done at noon day. The original painting also shows a church in the background.
Both are heavy and the casting is well done for such an in depth scene. We do not find any markings on this to indicate a manufacturer. We would date these to the late 1920s to 1930s for a time period.
Measuring 41/2 inches tall for both pieces, it looks as though they may have had felt on the bases at one time. We did not find any damage and the felt could be replaced to protect your desk or shelf. The patina is very rich looking.
