An antique belt buckle featuring multi colored enameling. Both sides are square and have intricate design with white, blue, black, red, and turquoise for colors. The base metal looks to be a gilded brass.
Basse-Taille is transparent glass enamel applied over an engraved, chased or stamped metal ground plate. We do not find a hallmark on this set but would date it to the later part of the 19th Century; 1880s-1890s.
Each part is about 1-1/16 inches square. On side has a hook on the under edge and the other side shows a loop on the edge for closing the buckle. The backs show a loop to attached the belt. There is a bit of wear to the enameling which is to be expected for their age. Our price does reflect the condition.
