A sterling silver framed sulphide cameo pendant featuring a brilliant blue morpho butterfly wing as the back drop. The cameo is glass that has been reversed carved and painted. This particular piece shows a nude Greek woman or as we'd like to think a Muse. The oval silver holder shows a beaded pattern around the rim. The bale has a pretty flower in the center.
These became popular when similar items were shown at the British Expo in 1924. We see Sterling Silver and England on the back telling us the country of origin.
Measuring 1 1/4 inches long we find this to be in excellent condition. A word of caution that this should never get wet! It will ruin the butterfly wing. Use a soft jeweler's cloth to polish if you choose or leave as is and enjoy the patina of the silver.
