Antique turkey platter with matching plates that feature cobalt flow blue rims. We see a larger turkey portrait in the center of the oval. The cobalt rim is decorated with coin gold transfers and raised enamel flowers. There are six side plates which are decorated with different turkey portraits; one portrait repeats on 4 of the plates. When turning them over, the blue shows through to back of the plate rims.
The hallmark on the back was used by Wheeling Pottery Co. and is the La Belle mark which dates this beautiful set to c. 1893. The La Belle Pottery Co. and Wheeling Pottery consolidated at this time. Wheeling was known for its flow blue dinnerware.
The platter measures 17.5" x 12.5" and the matching side plates are 10" in diameter. We do not find any damage such as cracks or flakes. We do see crazing from age which is typical of this semi-porcelain. A few spots of discoloration from age but nothing to be nervous about. This displays beautifully as you can see in our photos. A truly splendid and rare set.
