An antique shaving cup featuring lily of the valley accented with shiny coin gold near the rim. A transfer area of yellow roses with pink centers decorates the front. This is an open design shaving mug with scalloped rim and no partitions.
This hard paste porcelain mug has the Germany 81 in a double circle mark on the bottom as well as the original owner's name of Aaron Ebersole written on it and is circa 1880's if not a bit earlier.
Measuring 3.5" High x 3.5" opening x 8" circumference at roundest part we find some scratch marks on the inside of cup; most likely from a shaving brush or razor and a small separation line between two of the scallop points on the rim. We inspected this area carefully and have determined that this was done during the time of manufacture as it was painted over with the coin gold.
