An antique porcelain tea set featuring charming portraits of love birds. The birds are surrounded by red roses with blue highlights around the images. The teapot lid also has a bouquet of red roses on one side. This is a size typically known as a petit dejeurner or small breakfast set. We like the fact that is has the original matching tray. All pieces are highlighted with a bit of gold. The tray has a nice line of gold all the way around the rim.
The hallmark we see on the bottom of the tray is an impressed Carlsbad which tells us that is was made in Austria. We would place this early 1880's or possibly late 1870's.
Measurements for each piece are: Tray at 14.25" diameter, Teapot with lid 7" high, Creamer 4" high, Sugar 4.25" high with lid, Cup, 3.25" opening & ~3" high, Saucer 5 5/8" diameter. We find cup has a nip out of top of handle and the saucer has a very faint center spider line in the glaze only which does not show through to the front. There is a bit of wear to the decoration but we are just delighted that this is in such fine shape. You will not be disappointed!
