An antique porcelain chocolate pot featuring a transfer print with a heavy gold, hand painted design of poppies in full bloom. Each flower is highlighted with gold enameling and red outlining. They extend all the way around pot and on lid. The handles and rims are decorated with gold and the glaze has a satin finish.
The hallmark is OE&G Royal Austria; the Oscar and Edgar Gutherz factory which manufactured some of the finest pieces of porcelain in Bohemia. This particular piece dates to c. 1898. For the Gutherz Factory at least five decorators were employed. They were known only by their first names which were Fann, George, Laporte, Martin, and Raymond - Bohemian Decorated Porcelain, Dr. James D. Henderson, pg 42. The signature on this pot is Laporte.
Measuring 9" to top of lid we find only one small spot on lid handle that shows a tiny area of wear which is, in itself, incredible for the age. Here is an opportunity to own a beautiful piece from a century ago that is truly one of a kind and in superb antique condition.
