Victoria Stowe, author of Exotic Skin Alligator and Crocodile Handbags, writes in reference to Lucille de Paris handbags "Every time I come across a new Lucille, I become out-of-breath and amazed at how perfect they are." (130) She also states "The casual chic of Lucille de Paris handbags became the quintessence of 1950's glamour." (59)
This is a drop-dead gorgeous, upscale, red Porosus crocodile frame-bag created by Lucille de Paris for I. Magnin & Co. Ca 1956. This daytime bag features glossy red, highly symmetrical central belly-cuts perfectly matched on both sides, self-covered frame, flip clasp, swivel structured handle and four brass feet. The interior is leather-lined with three slip pockets and one zip compartment. It is stamped "Lucille de Paris" one one side and "Made in USA" on the other. The fabric label reads "I. Magnin $ Co." The purse measures 11" X 7" (excluding handle) X 2 1/2".
There is a little dip on the bottom corner of the bag and a couple of small pen marks on the inside. Aside from that this bag is in excellent condition and without the usual edge wear common in a bag of this age. The color is absolutely sensational, the quality is simply unsurpassed. Don't let this beauty pass you by.
