These are 18 large Halsam wooden alphabet blocks in their original box. The Halsam toy company was founded in 1917. It was a pioneer in the wooden blocks manufacturing market with product lines that included alphabet blocks, safety blocks and interlocking Hi-Lo blocks. The company was in business until it was purchased by Fisher Price in 1962.
These alphabet blocks were the larger of their two block sizes measuring 1 3/4". The box measures 11" X 5 1/2" X 2". There is a split on one corner of the box and other minor surface wear. Considering these blocks were made in the late forties to early fifties, I would say the box has held up remarkably well. The beautiful blocks have never been used!
These would make a wonderful addition to any vintage toy collection.
