This old work is “Luther in Rome or Corradina The Last of the Hohenstaufen. A Religio-Historical Romance” by Levin Schucking and translated by Mrs. Eudora Lindsay South. This was printed in 1890 by Thayer & Co. This is illustrated. “But there is one stage of Luther’s life into which history gives us little insight, - the stage of transformation, of mental struggle preceding the resolution to make of himself the reformer he afterward became…But, suffice it to say, Shucking has furnished, in this volume, the missing views in the panorama of Luther’s life. The pleasure derived from this work in the original, the translator now gladly shares with the thousands of those who cannot read German. If the reader is already familiar with D’Aubigne’s ‘History of the Reformation’ and with the ‘Shonberg-Cotta Family,’ he will yet derive from the perusal of this volume a far more vivid conception of Luther’s character. If, however, this should fall into the hands of one wholly unacquainted with Luther, like the masterpiece of some great artist, he will see in it ‘a thing of beauty to be a joy forever.”

This book is app. 9.5”x6.5” with 377 pages. This has cloth over hard boards. This is in good reading condition as there is quite a bit of wear to the covers. There is corner, edge, spine wear and bumping. There is soiling and discoloration to covers. There is cloth damage at corners and spine tips and edges. The hinges are cracked so there is slop to the spine. The binding is tight and all pages intact. The book is complete with the exception of one missing illustration.
