This old work is "Heroines of History" by Mrs. Octavius Freire Owen and published in 1856 by G. Routledge & Co. This has eight illustrations inside by Gilbert. The ladies are divided into the following three era: Jewish, Classic, and Modern. Some of the 24 women covered are: Jael, Judith, Marianne, Semiramis, Arria, , Portia, Boadicea, Zenobia, Eleanor of Castile, Philippa of Hainault, Joan D'Arc, Margaret of Ajou, Madame De Maintenon, Marie Antoinette, and more!
This book is app. 7"x4.5" with 423 pages. This has blue cloth covered hard-boards with gold gilt accents. This is in good condition overall with corner,edge spine wear and bumping. There is splitting to the cloth at the front and back boards where they meet the spine. There is cloth wear to the corners and spine tips. The binding is tight and all pages intact, but the hinges are cracked so there is some slop. One illustration is loose so there is some edge wear and creasing to it. There is a name inside in ink. There is age toning and some spotting here and there especially to illustrations' edges. Some of the protective rice paper is missing at the illustrations.
