This old work is “Stories For The Young or Cheap Repository Tracts: Entertaining, Moral, and Religious” by Hannah More(1745-1833) and others. This was published by the American Tract Society and is volume 4 and circa 1840s -50s. The short stories are as follows: The Cottage Cook or a Cure for Melancholy showing the way to do much good with little money, The Sunday School:being Part II of the Cottage Cook, The History of Hester Wilmot or the Second Part of the Sunday School being Part III of the Cottage Cook, Betty Brown of St. Giles’ Orange Girl with some account of Mrs. Sponge the Money-Lender, The Gin-Shop or A Peep Into Prison, The Explanation of the Ten Commandments.” There are 5 illustrations inside and an illustrated frontispiece.
This is app. 6”x4” with 176 pages. This has embossed, cloth covered hard boards with gilt lettered spine. This is in good reading condition overall with wear. THere is corner, edge, spine wear and bumping. There is soiling and fading to the covers. The binding is tight and all pages intact. There is some loosening to the lower half of the title page. There is age toning and yellow spotting. Margaret Aldrich put her name in 3 places inside in pencil. The book is complete. There are no offensive odors.
